Italian Gingerbread Cookies

200 grams flour
110 grams butter
100 grams brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
100 grams molasses (or honey)

3 tablespoons icing sugar (as far as I know, this should be the name of
white sugar when reduced into powder)
1/2 teaspoon water
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice


Mix together all ingredients. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters. Place cookies 1 inch apart onto a cookie sheet. Bake 15 minutes at 180C (350F). Make icing with sugar, lemon and water: when cool, the cookies can be frosted with the icing.
