Chocolate Bread Pudding (version 2)


2 ounces unsweetened chocolate
1 quart scalded milk
2 cups homemade bread crumbs
1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup melted butter
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla


Preheat oven to 325. Butter a 1 1/2- or 2-quart baking dish. Break chocolate into bits and melt in milk, stirring until smooth (sometimes I do this in the microwave). Add bread crumb and let cool. When lukewarm, add remaining ingredients. Mix well. Pour into buttered dish and bake for 50 minutes until set. Serve with whipped cream.
