Brunch Waffle Brownies

1 1/2 cups enriched flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 cup shortening
2/3 cup sugar
2 egg yolks
3/4 cup milk
2 – 1 oz. squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
2 stiffly beaten egg whites


Sift together the flour, salt and cinnamon. Cream the shortening, add the sugar and beat until light andfluffy. Add the egg yolks. Mix well. Add milk alternately with dry ingredients. Stir in the chocolate andnuts. Fold in the egg whites. Bake about 5 minutes in waffle baker, slightly cooler than for plain waffles.Dust with confectioner's sugar. Cut in small pieces. Makes about four large waffles.
